According to the Boston Consulting Group, the digital economy is expected to reach $6.6 trillion by 2020 among the most advanced 20 nations. Because of this, it is critical that rural small businesses and entrepreneurs not only participate in this digital economy but understand and implement diverse online presence strategies.
Thanks to funding from Connect Mississippi, outreach and technical assistance to Mississippi entrepreneurs and small business owners was expanded through the Virtual Incubator Program (VIP). The VIP covers a range of topics and online presence strategies from social media to location-based services to basic website building and also provides technical assistance to those participating.
A total of 8 presentations/workshops were completed reaching over 250 Mississippi entrepreneurs and small business owners. In addition, 4 small business owners received 1-on-1 technical assistance. This assistance ranged from setting up an Etsy store, social media, and website with shopping cart.
